Some wars are well worth fighting: Bistro a Table's once-a-month degustation dinners for November & December feature chef Isadora Chai's reinterpretation of signature recipes from some of KL's finest outlets (plus one from Singapore).
Dim sum's the theme (!): Il Lido's burrata cheese starter receives the first makeover, turned into cheese-stuffed 'har gao' lookalikes topped with roma tomatoes, honey & pine nuts & caper pesto.
From Mediteca: creamy poached duck egg with Italian black truffles, fresh girolles & onions on sweet potato 'bird's nest.'
Look south: Gunther's in Singapore is credited for this cold capellini, a super-smooth stunner with Breton sea urchin, caviar, soy, mirin & white truffle oil.
Cilantro's turn: the Micasa establishment's eel-liver masterwork is transformed into 'pai tee' brimming with unagi, shaven iced foie gras & liquidized aragula.
... teamed up with roasted chat potatoes, 'lor mai kai' style, with creme fraiche.
Nero Vivo's osso bucco becomes 'sui gow' in beef consomme. Some of these might now be on Bistro's a la carte menu; the full selection will be presented at the next Kitchen Wars degustation dinner, probably on the first Monday of December. Reservations mandatory.
Taking its cue from Garibaldi: deconstructed tiramisu with Bailey's & chocolate liquor balls. Cost: RM380++ per person without wine, RM450++ with wine pairings.
