The Establishment @ Mesui

The murals on The Establishment's outer walls are what will capture most people's attention, portraying political and pop culture icons from Lincoln to Castro and Gorbachev, Hepburn to Morrison and Winehouse.

The Establishment has the potential to become one of the Changkat Bukit Bintang neighborhood's top bars. A neighbor of Palate Palette and No Black Tie, this three-story outlet boasts no signboard bearing its name; instead, it proudly proclaims "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash" and "Inch by Inch, Day by Day."

The Establishment's street-level lounge is cool, calm and cavernous, filled with eclectic furnishing and knickknacks that endow it with well-curated distinctiveness.

Hundreds of pots of money plants help to keep the traffic chaos outside at bay.

The Establishment's service team is supremely welcoming. Some of them hail from The Establishment's sister outlets in Melbourne, The Red Hummingbird and The Emerald Peacock.

The first-floor lounge is nice too but the music on this level can veer toward very loud.

Finally, the rooftop, still a work in progress, but it'll probably be fun to hang out here eventually.

The Establishment has no food menu for now (but it will soon); no cause for complaint though, since complimentary hot dogs are offered to customers.

The Establishment's signature cocktails clock in at a satisfying standard price of RM28. Try the one with 42 Below, Joseph Catron apple liquor, rose syrup, apple juice, mint leaves, cucumbers, fresh lime juice and jasmine tea.

The Red Hummingbird, buzzing with Bacardi Gold Oro, strawberry puree, fresh strawberries, lemon juice, vanilla syrup and guava juice.

The Emerald Peacock, strutting its stuff with pisco, sugar syrup, lime juice, pomegranate molasses, apple juice and fresh watermelon.

The Establishment opens 5pm through late, but is closed Sundays.

The Establishment,
31 Jalan Mesui, Kuala Lumpur.
