A casual restaurant that strives to serve Malay food with fusion flair.
Nasi Lemak Maki? At RM5.50+, it's an experiment worth applauding, but the formula needs tweaking. The coconut sushi rice has fragrance, the sambal is satisfyingly sweet-spicy and the anchovies add a cool crunch. The misstep: the soggy seaweed wrapping.
Poyo's full-fledged nasi lemak scratches the itch for rice, but these pandan-tinged grains could be more aromatic. The fried chicken's finger-lickin' good nonetheless.
Steamed tapioca with grated coconut. Not as oh-my-God-good as we had hoped for, but the best renditions of this tend to be homemade ones, right?
Beef serunding and egg in Benggali bread, for an unexpectedly thick, hearty sandwich.
Continuing our carb-fest: Grilled lempeng topped with shredded mozzarella and cheddar. We prefer Western pancakes, but this is still worth trying.
Poyo's house-made palm sugar ice cream is nice. Nothing but nice.
Also sweet: Pengat pisang, served with the banana's skin intact.
Teh tarik, alongside a RM8.50 pineapple mint tea. We've been encountering lots of outlets where prices for non-alcoholic beverages exceed those for the food.
