Samira @ Sentul Park

A well-kept secret for now, this Thai restaurant with a verdant lake view has the potential to become a hot spot for everything from a romantic rendezvous to birthday bashes.

Samira takes over from Yuritei, the Japanese tea house near the KL Performing Arts Center. The venue has been entirely refurbished, resulting in an enchanting setting.

Seeking a salad before catching a ballet performance at KLPAC? This mix of banana blossoms, shrimp & squid (RM22+) makes for a flowering of sweetly delicate flavors.

Dry tom yum chicken (RM22+). The meat without the soup, but with the sour spiciness intact.

"Hor mok," the traditional crimson-curried fish custard in banana leaves (RM23++), steamed to savory, souffle-like succulence.

Northeastern Thai street food: Grilled beef with Isaan chili sauce (RM30+). Good enough to munch on mindlessly while contemplating life, love & other mysteries.

Omelet rolls with mixed veggies & seafood (RM16+). Note that though Samira's prices seem low, the portions are constructed for only two or three people.

Who knew that veggies could steal the show here? These are the perfect "paku pakis" _ the freshest of fern leaves (RM16+), simultaneously crunchy but soft, stir-fried with shrimp paste.

Cocktails & wine are available, a pivotal plus point. Siam Soul (vodka, cointreau, lemon juice) & Last Man In My Life (vodka, tequila, grenadine, orange juice).

Housekeeping notes: Samira is the sister outlet of Asian Terrace @ Solaris Mont Kiara.

Remember how we said recently that we only resort to Thai food once every three months? If more places like Samira pop up, then maybe once a month might be a better estimate.
