The closest thing to a Chinese "tai chow" place at Solaris Dutamas.
Clams with noodles, wolfberries & dates. In our version of The Hunger Games, ravenous customers will fight each other to the death for the last bit of briny broth.
Wild boar curry. The spices may sting, but the savory-juicy hog flesh still shines.
Bitter gourd, coated in creamy, cholesterol-crammed salted egg.
Chicken with crispy ginger. The cost? About RM75 for four dishes. Not too bad?
Adding to Chinese Cottage's advantage: no corkage charge! Buy a bottle at Ben's Independent Grocer downstairs & bring it over. Note that Chinese Cottage has very limited wine glasses.
It's worth walking around Solaris & stopping at low-profile cafes, like One Sweet One Night.
Sago-stewed papaya, for dessert. Pleasantly milky & not overly sweet, but forget about trying to scrape the fruit from the papaya skin; it's suspiciously hardened.
No cocktails here, though run-of-the-mill wine & beer are available.
Avocado-chocolate juice. One Sweet One Night's iPad menu broadcasts a sweeping selection of fusion fare _ everything from mango beef rolls to avocado-black pepper chicken chop _ which might be worth checking out sometime. Or maybe not.
