Blue Skies

The gastronomic gentrification of Brickfields begins here: a bakery cafe nestled in a modern condominium, a one-minute walk from a century-old temple.

Blue Skies is bright and cheerful, serving not only bread but also hot meals _ everything from buns & brownies to marmite chicken & macarons, Sundays through Fridays, 7 a.m.-8 p.m.

This Devil's Curry proved tastier and more aromatic than expected, with chicken swathed in a complex, not-overly-spicy stew, accompanied by belacan & telur belanda (egg with tamarind gravy). Other surefire crowd-pleasers here include nasi lemak, bangers & mash and fish & chips.

Milk Loaves are Blue Skies' specialty. Head here around noon to buy one hot from the oven; fragrant and cottony, it's so good you SHOULD eat it on its own.

Blue Skies' macarons are incredibly intriguing at first glance, especially one with a slice of cheese sandwiched inside and another with chunks of apricot. They're flavorful, but their texture leans closer to biscuits than macarons. Worth sampling nevertheless; other varieties include black sesame, chocolate mint, peanut butter, green tea & hazelnut.

Cheesecake topped with fresh grapes. Luscious, lovably luscious.
