Little Heritage House @ Section 17, Petaling Jaya

Little Heritage House calls itself a "Straits Chinese kitchen," serving traditional Nyonya favorites in a setting that seethes with culture-rich heirlooms from simpler times.

Launched this month by Penang-raised CK & Alain, Little Heritage House could turn into a second home for folks seeking one of Section 17's most ravishing eateries.

The menu's short & sweet, with items available a la carte or in wallet-friendly sets. A large serving of sambal petai with omelet costs RM38+, but it's as tasty as expected, thanks to the pleasurably fresh stinky beans, flavor-packed chili sauce & perfectly fluffy egg.

Deep-fried saffron-marinated black pomfret (RM36+), commendable for its moist firmness.

Nasi ulam Nyonya (RM22+), a welcome alternative to steamed plain rice.

Salted veggie duck soup (RM6+), acceptable but not admirable. Malaccans do this best!

Sago Gula Melaka (RM6+), a crowd-pleasing choice, abundant with pearls.

Our highest recommendation, however, goes to the excellent bubur pulut hitam (RM6+), sumptuous with black glutinous rice & mata kucing fruits.

Barley & chrysanthemum beverages, steaming hot & fairly fragrant.

Have we stepped back to 1960? For a minute or two, it might feel that way here.

The outlet showcases a treasure trove of private collection dinnerware & coffee table reading.

All things considered, we like this place; it's friendly & welcoming, offering satisfactory food. Prices seem steep, but cost-cutters can check out the RM20-RM25 set meals.

Little Heritage House opens for lunch & dinner daily.
